Using Intermapper has allowed us to be more proactive while monitoring network status. The use of visual and audible indicators means we don't have to be in front of the monitor all day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The licensing for IM Remote were cumbersome until recently. Now, there is a shared licensing model and it's great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Intermapper is an easy-to-implement SNMP monitoring tool. Deployable on most common platforms (PC, Mac, Linux), it allows your IT department to quickly build maps of your network infrastructure and monitor utilization. It is highly effective in quickly identifying problem areas and the extent of any outages. I check Intermapper daily and typically keep it open in one of my desktop tabs. It integrates with most common flow exporters, providing valuable insights into your network traffic without the need for a complex sniffer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It needs to be run on a system with a reliable UPS. If the power is lost on your host computer, you may need to recover your maps from the automated backups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability to make a graphically accurate map and be able to monitor traffic loads on individual interfaces. Audible notification of down devices (Star Trek claxon is pretty fun).
The basic interface is super simple to train clients how to quickly see what is up and what is down. I have some clients that have used this platform for years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not understanding the downside of enabling layer-2 discovery and have it wipe out your beautiful L3 map. I tried to work with support and get around this, but project budgets always got in the way. Not a fault of Intermapper. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
You can know that something is not working well simply with a look at the map.
It is easy to use, it provides an accurate map of the network, it is easy to create customized probes to obtain the data that most interest you, it has a web interface that makes it accessible to anyone with credentials, it allows you to create graphs of any data obtainable via SNMP. should be a way to keep a log on interfaces up/down, could be handy in troubleshooting with old devices Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve is very small on Intermapper. One can quickly produce useful maps that graphically represent the utilization and health of an entire network, a lab of devices, or pretty much anything else you'd want to keep track of. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If a probe doesn't already exist for a product you want to monitor, you can either use a very limited and generic probe, or write your own. The problem is that writing your own probe is a difficult and daunting task. It's gotten better over the years, with the addition of a website that can look at a MIB and create a probe, but my experience has still been frustrating when writing new probes. Most devices have dozens of MIBs, and figuring out which MIB to import is infeasible. Further, the finished products seem to only grant access to tables instead of metrics that can be graphed.
There have been a lot of extra features added over the years, but additional probes, or making it easier to make better probes, hasn't gotten much attention and would be the most welcome change, in my opinion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Intermapper provides indicators that you can use to diagnose problems in the network, which can significantly lower outages and downtime. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have yet to find any feature that I dislike about Intermapper. Their support and forums are great as is the community that uses Intermappler. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The software is easy to use and reliable. We monitor 11 sites with various pieces of equipement ranging from HP and cisco switches, tripplite UPS, and servers. All are monitored reliably and easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish the system interface would get a facelift. While its functional, it looks old and outdated. The update process could also be smoother. Currently you have to get the update software and install it instead of an update button. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The collection of premade probes is great but could be better. Notifications are great - Auto-mapping and L2 probing works great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It would be great if their staff could make some more ports for common implementations/devices - more of the effort of building a probe is put on the user (which is normal for any utility like this), but it would be a time saver if there were more probes - especially for more common cloud services as well as for other common devices. The initial price could be better—especially if there were more probes available. I would pay more in maintenance if I knew there were either a little more or better probes available. Monitoring and performance management. Historic utilization, and threshold alerts is the reasonfor using this product Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Last I checked, managing users and their permissions is a bit tedious.
Since I am the only one managing the product, I can just be a superuser, and it does not matter much. But if user provisioning was easier I'd like to delegate some of my tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The thing that I like best about Intermapper is its ease of use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like more probes created by the developer instead of having to create them all myself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
