I took a look at the many options, did some actual testing, and chose Piwik Pro because:
1. Looks and works a lot like GA3/Universal Analytics. Perhaps more importantly, its numbers were consistently with +/- 5% of GA3.
2. Has its own tag manager but can also work through GTM.
3. Built in consent manager if you need it.
4. Free up to 500,000 hits/events per month.
5. The real-time tracker/debugger makes it easy to troubleshoot issues and verify tag changes.
6. Great support community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish that the data for the free version went back for 24 months instead of 14 months. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Piwik PRO puts privacy at the center of its design, making it the go-to analytics platform for companies operating in highly regulated industries. I appreciate how easy it is to configure data residency, manage user consent, and fully own the data. The platform’s interface feels intuitive and familiar, especially for those coming from Google Analytics, and the support team is highly responsive. Frequent updates show that Piwik PRO is serious about continuous improvement while staying compliant with new regulations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While Piwik PRO covers most essential analytics needs very well, the range of third-party integrations is still somewhat limited compared to giants like Google. Advanced reporting (like cohort analysis or custom attribution modeling) can sometimes feel less flexible without additional configuration. Also, for businesses with very complex enterprise-level needs, the platform may require some custom setup to unlock its full potential. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its sensible, well thought out, high quality implementation. The reporting UI is rock solid. The suite of tools are all tightly integrated - analytics, CMP, TMS, CDP
The support is excellent backed up by a mature partner eco-system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I want more people to use it! Understandably, some of the 3P integrations are more complex because third parties make them more complex. Google want you to use GA4, so that's why it's easier to integrate with search console for example. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Currently, Piwik PRO is my favourite tool for web analytics to replace Google Analytics. It is easy to use and understand, marketers don't necessarily need analysts' help for everything. In addition, it provides tools for consent management and tag management in the same software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Piwik PRO is still very web oriented -- I probably wouldn't choose it as analytics tools for a mobile app or product analytics of a SaaS tool. It certainly can be used for those purposes, but some other tool might be better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Privacy compliance: Piwik PRO puts data ownership in your hands, offering on-premises and private cloud hosting options. It’s one of the few analytics platforms that genuinely supports full compliance with strict privacy laws.
User-friendly interface: The dashboard is clean, intuitive, and highly customizable, making it accessible even to those without deep technical expertise.
Powerful features: From detailed visitor profiles to custom reports, tag management, and consent management, Piwik PRO delivers enterprise-grade capabilities comparable to Google Analytics 360—without the vendor lock-in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I did not encounter any difficulties :) s Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I’m obsessed with Piwik PRO’s real-time, unsampled data. The customizable dashboards and privacy first vibe make digging into analytics fun and stress-free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
UI feels dated but it's not an issue, to be honest, it's old but quite clean. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's very easy to implement and to use. I use it every week to check effects of our marketing efforts Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Maybe it's a little outdated look, but on the other way it's very useful, so there's nothing to dislike Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One of the best things about Piwik Pro is that it's EU based. No support to Trump & America. Plus I feel much more safe about the data security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I need a much more simple dashboard in the beginning. I always build one myself for my clients.
Tracking cross domain is not working and I can't get any support solving the issues. That needs to be fixed ASAP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
