What do you like best about Gusto?

If you can find a phone number for Gusto and speak to someone on the phone, the people are vey polite, pleasant to talk to and very willing to help. This is a stark contrast to other payroll providers I've worked with Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

After 18 months with Gusto I had my first tax related issue. Gusto underpaid a tax and did not tell me about it. I received a collections notice from the tax agency and immediately submitted it to Gusto. Gusto does everything by email, which means you can't get someone on the tax department on the phone. Over the next month I followed up with Gusto several times. Emails were not returned same day and the email responses were usually vague (We are still investigating... We will have an answer for you by the end of the week). When I called to speak to the person working on the case, that person was always away from their desk.

4 weeks later the issue was still not resolved and I was charged another months penalties and interest. At this point my companies relationship with the tax authority was at risk, so I paid the tax authority directly for the underpayment.

Gusto ultimately tried to "fix" the underpayment by issuing a fraudulent tax amendment to the tax authority. When I told Gusto that the amendment was not correct based on employee time sheets Gusto stopped emailing me. I had to revoke Gusto's authority directly with the tax authority in order to prevent the fraudulent amendment form being processed.

Gusto only offered a $15 credit on my next bill to offset the penalty and interest charges. The $15 was not sufficient to cover penalties and interest and as a credit it would go unused as I will no longer be running payroll with Gusto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Gusto:

I've recommend SurePayroll over Gusto. It is better to deal with rude first level support reps than the issues seen with Gusto. Gusto's tax experts are not knowledgeable, slow to resolve issues and lack integrity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Online payroll processing for a company with less than 5 employees. Employee self onboarding is a nice feature.

The tax department lacks integrity.

Support phone numbers are not provided on the website and have recently been removed from Gusto email signatures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

First and foremost the customer support experience is fantastic. To me this is the #1 thing that sets it apart from my experience elsewhere. Any time I am stuck, unsure, or completely confused I have been able to get help from support on the phone or chat (depending on the nature of the issue) that has been efficient, reliable, and solutions based. In addition to immediate short term support, when I've provided feedback about something I feel is missing or doesn't make sense to me in Gusto I've actually seen improvement be made in a reasonable amount of time thereafter.

The interface is also extremely user friendly on the admin side, which I feel most competitors fail to prioritize or update (as opposed to the employee side which they do prioritize). And of course most importantly I have yet to have an issue with compliance or regulatory issues over years of working with Gusto with multiple clients at a time.

Handling benefits has always made sense to me in Gusto. When managed by Gusto they are all integrated and synced which is a huge plus on the administrative end. But even when managed outside of Gusto I've always found it intuitive and easy to set up the proper information and deductions. And again when help is required support has been great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I think perhaps there some limitations to Gusto in terms of the size and complexity of the organization's employee base. I tend to work with small to medium sized businesses so I can't speak to how Gusto would adapt to a large organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Keeping payroll straightforward. Providing a system that is easy and sensible to navigate. Providing high quality support around legitimately complex things. Helping be sure we are in compliance and on time with all things payroll. Syncing to our accounting software for bookkeeping and reporting ease and consistency. Providing easy to use and customize reporting for other outside requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto makes payroll incredibly simple and stress-free. The interface is clean, easy to navigate, and automates most of the work. I especially appreciate how tax filings and compliance are handled automatically—it saves a ton of time. Onboarding new employees is smooth, and support is responsive whenever we have questions. It’s a great all-in-one solution for start-up companies like us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

They offer a lot of 3rd party solutions that don't integrate directly with the Gusto platform so I have multiple logins for the different solutions (IE 401k, state registrations, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto has taken the headache out of payroll and HR tasks for our team. It automates payroll runs, tax withholdings, and filings, which saves us time and helps avoid costly mistakes. Compliance is no longer a concern since Gusto stays up-to-date with changing tax laws. Onboarding new hires is seamless, and employees love having self-service access to their pay stubs, benefits, and tax forms. Overall, it’s made our operations more efficient and professional, and it’s freed us up to focus on growing the business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Gusto has been an invaluable tool in helping us stay organized and compliant with payroll, onboarding, and team management.

Great for Small Teams: As a lean organization that employs seasonal instructors and part-time staff, Gusto has made it easy to scale our workforce up or down depending on programming needs.

What do you like best about Gusto?

I am able to efficiently and effectively service multiple clients with multiple employee types. I'm able to easily create time tracking obligations for employees which import right into my payroll runs! I'm able to easily pay contractors or traditional employees, alter pay schedules, run off-cycle payrolls, or bonus runs at the drop of a dime. Gusto is intuitive and knows what I want it to do almost before I do! I also love the HR capability and the peace of mind that comes with knowing Gusto handles all of my client's payroll taxes and tax reporting. I would never recommend another platform because Gusto does it all for clients big or small and is so cost-effective!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I honestly cannot list a quality or capability of Gusto that I could recommend improvements on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto handles all of my client's tax payments and reporting as well as year end W2/1099 prep, filing, and mailing! This saves me an immense amount of time and saves my clients a substantial amount of billing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Customer Support is a way better than ADP or PayChex. When there is a notice or a need to amend payroll, Gusto is much more prompt and faster processing the request. ADP and PayChex are very slow. Also, Gusto has a great integration with QuickBooks Online, so it's very convenient. Ease of most implementation are better than competitors, and Gusto does not charge like ADP or PayChex per processing. It's a flat monthly fee, so the frequency of use is more flexible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

When overriding tax withholding to a flat dollar, Gusto is a little inconvenience. Other payroll service is easier when it comes to override. I hope Gusto update this part to allow user a manual entry. Even implementing the benefit, I need to first go to Benefit tab, activate; then, I can do manual entry. It's a little inefficient as ADP and PayChex do better on this part. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Easy interface for clients to run payroll without a hassle. Very user friendly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto has been an absolute game-changer for our small business! Coming into this with no prior payroll experience, I was nervous about how to handle such an essential part of our operations. But Gusto exceeded all expectations by making the process simple, straightforward, and completely user-friendly. Its intuitive interface and clear step-by-step guidance ensure that everything runs smoothly without a hitch.

One of the biggest advantages of Gusto was how incredibly easy it was to implement. Getting started was quick and hassle-free, and integrating it into our daily operations felt seamless. Now, it has become an indispensable part of how we handle payroll. We use it all the time to manage everything from payments to insights, and it has made what used to feel like a daunting task second nature.

Beyond its simplicity, what truly stands out is Gusto’s exceptional support team. They’re always ready to help, answer questions, and provide clarity whenever needed. Their assistance has been invaluable, making me feel like I’m never handling this alone.

I also love how Gusto goes beyond the basics by offering strategic financial insights, especially in areas like tax refunds. This added layer of understanding has empowered us to make smarter, more confident decisions for our business. We use this software almost every day and it has integrated very well into all facets of our small business.

If you're a small business owner searching for a strategic and reliable payroll provider, I can’t recommend Gusto enough. It’s not just a tool; it’s a partner that makes payroll easy, efficient, and stress-free. We’re thrilled with our experience and couldn’t imagine running things without it! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

Can't think of anything that I dislike about the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto is solving all of our payroll-related challenges, including complex tasks like tax reporting, with incredible efficiency. Before using Gusto, managing payroll felt overwhelming and time-consuming, especially since I lacked prior experience in this area. Now, everything from calculating payments to filing taxes is handled seamlessly in one user-friendly platform.

Its automation features save us an incredible amount of time by streamlining tasks that used to take hours. Plus, the built-in tax reporting ensures we stay compliant without the stress of figuring out the details ourselves. This level of accuracy and reliability provides immense peace of mind, knowing that nothing important is slipping through the cracks.

By solving these problems, Gusto allows us to focus on running and growing our business instead of getting bogged down in administrative work. It’s been a game-changer for our day-to-day operations, making payroll effortless and freeing up time to focus on what we do best. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto's payroll platform is the easiest and most accurate software I have ever used in my 30 years of being in finance. From start to finish, setting up new employees and processing payroll is simple. I also love the reporting feature, which makes running payroll reports for various reasons as easy as clicking through a couple of steps. My other favorite feature is federal and state filings are done through Gusto, so there is no stressing over deadlines or accuracy. Also, I like that our company can import documents such as holiday schedules and employee handbooks to be reviewed by each employee. Overall, Gusto is a fantastic product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

The only drawback I have found using Gusto is when I have the need for customer support, I have to submit a request for a call. I wish I could call directly, however, the callbacks have generally been quick. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto is excellent at reminding the administrator when important deadlines are coming up! From payroll deadlines, to tax filing, and keeping a list of onboarding or offboarding tasks to complete. These features are intuitive and easy to use! I can have my accountant viewing expenses I've reimbursed to employees, or keep the office team up to speed on time-off requests, all while the app keeps track of sick pay, and when staff clocks in and out. I rely on Gusto daily for the features I need to keep my business running smoothly. It has everything you need, all in one place, and was simple to implement; from the start of the switch, we were up and running on the new system within a week! The record keeping and compliance features alone are worth it to help keep our nonprofit accountable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I only dislike the length of time it takes to load, which I feel spoiled for saying so, because it's less than a minute... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Keeping track of hours and time off, as well as payroll. We no longer have to utilize our own system of tracking hours, which gets messy, let alone WA State requirements for sick leave, etc. It also automatically runs payroll and reminds me of the tasks I need to complete before it is run, so everything is set up for success, and we don't have to run off-cycle payrolls to accommodate errors. It's easy for my accountant and I to utilize all of the features and keep things running smoothly! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
