We've been customers since 2021 and have used Angellist for our second fund. The difference is NIGHT AND DAY. Carta fund admin is garbage and needs to be sunset as a product.
- The Carta fund admin product is a thin software layer on top of a shitty support ticket system. It's a service more than it is software. This would be fine if the service was good. But they sell you personalized help and a dedicated account manager, and then you are literally put in a queue with every question you have, and after 24-48 hours you get random replies from what seems like junior support agents with no context on your account. For a high 5-figure ACV, I'd expect a lot more.
- Investments get logged incorrectly, they add documentation to the wrong company records... the lack of organization and training of their support agents who deliver the actual "service" make it a nightmare to stay organized as a GP.
- Additionally, they are effectively the same price as Angellist, so it's not even like this is the "cheap" off-brand option.
If you are the product leader for Carta Fund Admin, feel free to reach out. I have given the feedback to your team a couple times and have seen no improvement. Service only getting worse as you continue to try to cut costs and outsource your core service to junior support agents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Carta is a very strong platform for startups, offering an intuitive user experience and a wide range of features that support efficient management of equity, cap tables, and compliance. For our team, the platform is relatively easy to use and has simplified several administrative processes. However, the lack of localized data and specific resources for Romania limits our ability to leverage the platform to its full potential. Having more regional insights and tools would significantly enhance its value and help us manage our operations more effectively Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Carta makes equity management a breeze -- both from the admin side, but also as an employee. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Carta is world's better than my last platform (true nightmare!), so I don't have anything negative to say about it. It does exactly what my team needs it to do! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I appreciate the simplicity of the vesting schedule and the exercise simulator that allows me to make the right decision on exercise timing. I also appreciate the milestone emails with confetti. It makes me even more excited to be part of my company and contribute to its long-term growth. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish more manager reporting were available for my team, whereby I understand if anyone was granted equity. For example, I would get a notification if he/she/they didn't accept the grant, or I could see my team's equity distribution. I can only see and manage information for myself. The tool itself works well and has extensive functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Avoid this predatory company. We have been working to cancel our service for months, and they keep trying to give us hurdles to keep the account alive and sending us bills. They wanted $8,000 per year for our startup, and we are now working with a competitor for just a few hundred dollars. I suspect they will be bankrupt soon. Avoid at all cost. They overplayed their hand in the market, and now they're panicking, trying to hold onto revenue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that it integrates with our HRIS system Rippling. This makes it easy to keep track of stock for our employees and they enjoy being able to see everything in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I currently do not have any dislikes regarding Carta. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's a boon for the employer as well as the employee and creates a well regulated and transparent environment between the two. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It took a lot of time to onboard Carta as a vendor and we had to engage a small team around ESOPs from our side but that was not a major problem and I think it is the process for every company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The features and capability of the product to manage equity Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Account support, the Account executive is rude and lacks empathy for a paying customer, and customer service manager has never responded to any email in 2 months Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Cap table management, IR functions. The employee-related capabilities are excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No real downside, but the ability to run simulations is rife with errors. For example, the tool does not accurately reflect waterfalls under the conditions noted in the title (and I have confirmed this with Carta support). In addition, Carta should export, or at least display, the underlying assumptions and formulas when exporting reports - the inability to see "under the hood," per se, effectively requires customers to replicate the functionality in order to confirm results (which in our case was how we found the simulation errors). Granted, we will check your math in most cases, but confirming assumptions is tedious and needlessly time-consuming. In addition, without seeing the calculations, we are again left to build from the ground up to make more elaborate assumptions. Lastly, Carta would benefit from Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
